024A visit to the Sapphire Sweet Shop and Gem Mine Village is a wonderful treat and gives visitors a look into some of the rich history of the North Carolina mountains. Far of the road the Gem Mine sits under a canopy of shade trees and alongside a rambling creek. This natural setting along with a few touches of our own lets our visitors enjoy the true mining experience in a setting which can only be described as serene.

We want everyone who visits us here at the Village to have a safe, happy place to spend some time by themselves or with their families. On your way back to the flume area you will pass by our picnic area. We invite you to bring your lunch or pickup a snack in the sweet shop. Since you are in North Carolina, why not try an ice cold Cheerwine with a double decker Moon Pie.

Our Sweet Shop will help you remember days gone by. We offer 025hand dipped chocolates, world class fudge and a wide assortment of mixes and retro candy. They may not be a penny anymore but the memories they bring back are priceless.

If you like to tent camp we have four primitive sites which may be the best around. Situated behind the mine, these sites are have been dug out of the mountain and are heavily wooded. You may only be a few hundred feet off the road but you would think you were miles deep.

So thanks for visiting our site. We are currently building an amphitheater in the back area where we will feature storytellers and musicians. Please check back to see how it’s coming.
